The Trick to Buying the Best Baby Gift
Once invited to a baby shower it can sometimes be difficult to figure out the right baby gift. There are a couple main factors that go into deciding on a gift.
Duplicate gifts: You want to be careful not to buy something that someone else may also give. There are certain items that if gotten in duplicate the mother will be able to use, but others are not so useful. For example, a mother will not need two high chairs, so if two are given as gifts she is then put in the awkward position of returning one.
The mother's needs and choices: Some mother's breastfeed their babies so buying a bottle set is not really a good gift choice. Some mother's may have a certain diaper brand or product choice for their baby. It's important to find these things out beforehand so the gift is useful to the mother and baby.
Hand-me-downs: If this is the mother's 2nd or 3rd child, there's a good possibility that she may already have many of the larger things she'll need, like a crib, high chair or stroller. It's important to find out what items are already owned before getting anything.
Mother's registry: Many women are setting up baby shower registries that allow guests to go in and choose from a list of items to buy. Registry lists help to avoid duplicate gifts and also make sure the mother gets what she needs and can use. It's important to check out the registry list before you purchase any gift.
